A walk through the Cerreto hills, combining history, nature, and wine tasting
The walk follows the second Medici loop of “La Querciola,” part of the Via degli Etruschi and the Romea Strata, connected to the Via Francigena (Stage 29). From the meeting point at the Tourist Office, the route enters the historic center, skirting the ramps of the Medici Villa and following the picturesque Via del Mortaio to Via Aldebrandino.
The route continues along a dirt road surrounded by greenery, through vineyards and olive groves, until reaching Casa Quattrini, a scenic viewpoint overlooking the Medici village. The path continues toward La Querciola, through woods reminiscent of the landscape from the Medici era, to the Villa Fattoria di Petriolo, a 16th-century residence now restored, where lunch will be served along with a small wine tasting.
From Petriolo, the route descends into the Valbugiana valley, following a scenic stretch through cypress trees to La Scheggia, with views of the Arno Valley, then crosses an oak forest to Poggio Belvedere, a viewpoint overlooking the Apennine Mountains. The return to Cerreto Guidi follows Via Chitone and Via di Corliano.
In the afternoon, there is an opportunity to visit the Villa Medicea, the Miniatura all’Uncinetto, and the historic center of Cerreto Guidi on your own.
