Cammin di-vino: from the Medici Villa to Colle Alberti. Walk through the Cerreto hills between history, nature and tasting

Starting from the Tourist Office, you will walk through the centre of Cerreto Guidi for a visit to the Medici Villa and the attractions of the historic village. Descending from via del Mortaio, you will reach the ancient Villa Fattoria di Colle Alberti, dating back to the late 1200s. The place owes its name to the Alberti counts, an ancient family of Lombard origin, who around the 11th century held several properties in Tuscany. In the following centuries, Colle Alberti changed hands, but since 1819 the estate has been passed down from generation to generation within the same family, who have kept the historical tradition alive and intact. For the occasion, you will visit the Colle Alberti Country House, where participants will be offered lunch with wine tasting from the estate and from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of Cerreto Guidi.
In the afternoon you will resume the walk along via del Lungo, which crosses the ridge between the valley of the Rio Filicaja and the valley of the Rio Ganghereto, with breathtaking panoramic views of the Cerreto hills, reaching Colle di San Zio and then returning to the centre of Cerreto Guidi.

Discovering the Ancient Rose Garden

At Poggio Tempesti, at the Fattoria La Villetta, on the ridge of Cerreto Guidi overlooking the Padule di Fucecchio, you can visit a wonderful rose garden of ancient roses, which was born as a collection of often forgotten rose bushes. For the occasion, you will discover this enchanted garden accompanied by those who, with love and dedication, created and nurtured it.
At La Villetta, almost a thousand rose bushes have been planted, arranged according to their predominance in a particular historical period: there is the terrace of the Roman roses, that of the roses of Islam, that of the Medici roses, and so on. The wild roses and ancient roses offer a great variety of flowers, from the simplest with five petals to flowers composed of more than two hundred tightly packed petals. At La Villetta, thanks to the ancient roses, collections of petals for infusion or cooking, essences and jams are produced, products that will be tasted at the end of the visit.
