Island ring

Sunday, April 26, 2026

Time: 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM
Location: Monsummano Terme (PT) – Fucecchio Marshes area

Historical-Naturalistic Hike

The Monsummano Terme Marsh Loop (“Island Loop”) is a historical-naturalistic trail that winds through the countryside of Monsummano Terme and the Fucecchio Marshes wetland, one of Italy’s most important inland marsh ecosystems.
The route connects Porto dell’Uggia to Via delle Colmate, following farm roads, embankments, and historical paths linked to land reclamation and agricultural use of the land.
The trail crosses an open landscape, characterized by cultivated fields, drainage canals, locks, and hydraulic structures that testify to the long-standing relationship between humanity and the Padule environment.
Along the way, you’ll encounter environments of great naturalistic value, with still and flowing waters, typical wetland vegetation, and a rich presence of birdlife, especially during migration periods.
The Padule Ring is also a journey of memory, recounting the history of land reclamation, inland navigation, and traditional water-related activities, such as fishing and the harvesting of marsh herbs.
A landscape where nature, rural history, and local culture intertwine harmoniously. The route is approximately 8 km long and entirely flat.

Free event
Duration: approximately 3.5 hours
Length: approximately 6.5 km
Elevation gain: approximately 500 m
Difficulty: Hiking (suitable for ages 8 and up)
