The Treasure of Maria SS. della Fontenuova. History of a centuries-old devotion

The exhibition focuses on the Treasure of the Church of Maria SS. della Fontenuova, owned by the Parish of Maria SS. della Fontenuova, partly preserved and displayed at the Museum of the City and Territory. The exhibition offers a deeper understanding of a collection of gifts that narrates the profound and centuries-old bond between the city’s Marian sanctuary and its devotees. Kings and commoners alike have expressed gratitude to the venerated image of the Virgin, enclosed in the church’s high altar, through their votive offerings. From the most sumptuous gift, the Grand Ducal Crown in gold, precious stones, and enamels, to simple wooden tablets, each offering represents a historical testimony of an uninterrupted bond dating back to June 9, 1573.

In the landscape of Montalbano, Colle di Monsummano is a remarkable site due to its geological, faunal, floral, and vegetational aspects. The lush Mediterranean scrub is dominated by evergreen shrubs, among which, in spring, the white blossoms of rockroses and many species of wild orchids stand out. A visit to the hill also offers excellent opportunities for birdwatching enthusiasts, who may spot the avifauna of the scrub and rocky environments, such as the blue rock thrush, peregrine falcon, and raven.

Padule di Fucecchio: Nature Trail Le Morette
Natural Reserve Padule di Fucecchio – Le Morette, Via Morette, Larciano (PT)
A pleasant walk suitable for everyone along the equipped trail of Le Morette, to admire suggestive landscapes, crossing for a long stretch the Bosco di Chiusi, with its centuries-old oaks, up to the ancient port of Le Morette. The route continues along the embankment of the Terzo, in the heart of the marsh, to reach the Casotto del Biagiotti, which serves as a wildlife observation point for the reserve. In April, various species of herons, ibises, and spoonbills are present, nesting in nearby colonies, along with the knights of Italy and great crested grebes, which perform courtship dances.
