Independent walk (with guide if required) along one or more paths in the trail system, starting and finishing at Colle di Buggiano.
There are 9 different routes to choose from, with various lengths (from 4 to 24 km) and levels of difficulty, all starting and finishing in Piazza Cavour, Colle di Buggiano. All the routes are marked with special signs and some have a QR-code at the start so you can view the route directly on your smartphone.
The hiking routes and paths are freely accessible and open all year round.

The church formed part of the convent of Santa Marta and was dedicated to the saint in 1517 for the use of the Benedictine nuns. It is very dear to the inhabitants of Borgo a Buggiano because it preserves the ossuary of the war dead, with tombstones and graves of soldiers from Borgo.

Guided tour in the village of Cerreto Guidi, following a route that will reference the churches and the Villa commissioned by Cosimo I de’ Medici. The route will take in the shrine of Santa Liberata, the oratory of San Jacopo, and the oratory of the Santissima Trinità at the parish church of San Leonardo, and will include a visit to the Medici Villa, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

“FROM STABBIA TO THE MARSHES: HISTORY AND NATURE”
The route starts from the hamlet of Stabbia, in a panoramic position overlooking the Florentine part of the Fucecchio Marshes. Passing the Medici Farm (currently not open to visitors), it descends along an easy unsurfaced road to the edge of the wetland area. A stop is scheduled at the Giardino della Meditazione (Garden of Meditation), created in memory of the victims of the Fucecchio Marshes Massacre. We then visit the “Vincio Vecchio” accessible trail. We continue along the Vincio embankment and skirt the marshland basin as far as Cavallaia, where we can see herons, ibises and storks.

“PICNIC ON SAN ZIO HILL AND WALK AROUND THE ‘ANELLO MEDICEO’ OF VIA DEL LUNGO”
Meeting point at San Zio hill, where we will stop for a picnic lunch organised by the Contrada di Porta Fiorentina.
The church of the same name offers a wonderful view of the Medicean village on one side and the Arno valley on the other, framed in the distance by San Miniato, dominated by Frederick II’s tower. In the afternoon, we will resume our walk along the Via del Lungo, which runs along the ridge between the Rio Filicaja valley and the Rio Ganghereto valley, offering breathtaking views of the hills around Cerreto. We will make our way to the ancient Villa Fattoria di Colle Alberti, which has stood here proudly since the late thirteenth century. From Colle Alberti we descend towards the Rio Filicaja valley, before climbing through the vineyards of the Montauto II wine estate, where we will stop for a tasting session. The route then continues towards the Motta provincial road, returning to the San Zio hill, where it will be possible to stop and enjoy a wonderful sunset.

FUCECCHIO MARSH NATURE RESERVE – LE MORETTE AREA: WALK ALONG THE NATURE TRAIL AND BIRDWATCHING IN THE PROTECTED AREA.
Organised by the Municipality of Larciano – Centre for Research, Documentation and Promotion of the Fucecchio Marsh
An excursion to the nature reserve, particularly the Le Morette area, which can be reached along a well-equipped path from the Castelmartini visitor centre. A pleasant walk along a level road, suitable for everyone, allows you to admire the evocative landscapes, passing through a long stretch of Chiusi wood with its centuries-old oaks, until you reach the ancient port of Le Morette. The itinerary continues along the bank of the Terzo, in the heart of the marsh, to reach the Casotto del Biagiotti, which as a hide in the protected area for many years now.

THE MARSH BY NIGHT
Organised by the Municipality of Larciano – Centre for Research, Documentation and Promotion of the Fucecchio Marsh.
Sunset (and beyond) in the Nature Reserve, Le Morette area, listening to nocturnal birds of prey in the woods. The excursion at sunset (and beyond) is particularly evocative and also suitable for families with children, giving you the opportunity to appreciate unusual moments and aspects of the marsh.
The initial part is dedicated to birdwatching. You will be able to observe and learn to recognise herons, ducks, marsh harriers and many other species that frequent the marsh environment. The excursion even continues after the sun goes down, when the fading visibility is compensated by the multitude of sounds emitted by the many creatures of the marsh.
Duration: 3 hours – Free visit funded by the Municipality of Larciano.
Difficulty: none, flat route of approx. 3 km in both directions.

PADULE DI FUCECCHIO NATURE RESERVE – RIGHETTI AREA: WITH THE CENTER GUIDES VISITING THE OTHER HALF OF THE PROTECTED AREA.
Guided tour of the Righetti Area, the northernmost part of the Fucecchio Marsh Nature Reserve, which preserves elements of great landscape and naturalistic interest; it can be visited only with expert guides, to minimize any disturbance to the protected flora and fauna.
Even in this part of the Nature Reserve, major maintenance and environmental restoration interventions have been carried out over the years, and pools of water have been created, also equipped with two wildlife observatories, which house a great variety of water birds.
In the Righetti area there are also two small breeding colonies of herons and cormorants: from the observers it is possible to see the nests from a distance.
Visit of approximately three hours, including transfers.

THE MORETTE

PADULE DI FUCECCHIO: DISCOVERING THE PROTECTED AREA
Openings of the Visitor Center of the Padule di Fucecchio Nature Reserve and the birdwatching observatory of Le Morette, by the staff and volunteers of the RDP Padule di Fucecchio Center.
The Castelmartini Visitor Center hosts a permanent exhibition on the wetland and temporary exhibitions of photography and naturalistic drawing.
From the Center, with an easy and suggestive path between fields and plain woods, you can reach the wildlife observatory of the Nature Reserve where, with the assistance of expert staff, you can admire dozens of different species of water birds.
During the opening hours, the duration of the visits is at the discretion of the visitor.
Free visits to be done independently.

COLLE DI MONSUMMANO: BOTANICAL ITINERARY TO DISCOVER THE BLOOMS OF THE WILD ORCHIDS AND THE PLANTS OF THE MEDITERRANEAN MACCHIA.
In the context of Montalbano, the Colle di Monsummano constitutes a notable emergency for its geological, faunal, floristic and vegetational aspects; the luxuriant Mediterranean scrub is dominated by evergreen shrubs, among which in spring the white blooms of the cistus, the anemone of the fields and many species of spontaneous orchids stand out.
From a naturalistic point of view, a visit to Colle di Monsummano also offers good opportunities for birdwatchers; In fact, there is no lack of opportunities to meet the birdlife of the scrub and rocky environments, such as the Blue Rock Thrush (dear to Leopardi), but also the Peregrine Falcon, the Raven and other species.
Visit of approximately three hours, including transfers.

VISIT TO THE PAPER MUSEUM IN PESCIA – THE “LE CARTE” PAPER MILL
Visit to the three new rooms of the restored “Le Carte” industrial building with two multimedia stations, original systems and machinery from the eighteenth-nineteenth century inside. Possibility to walk the “Via della Carta” through a walking tour led by the environmental guides of the Gaia Valleriana Association to discover the paths of the paper masters, deepening the historical and naturalistic issues related to the Pesciatino area.
Free visit to the museum and guided excursions on the paths of the paper masters with a maximum number of participants per session of 25 people for both activities.
Duration 1 hour for the visit to the museum and 1 hour for the visit to the paths of the paper masters.

“HIKING THROUGH STORIES”
Circular hike: we will start from the town of Pescia (meeting point: Piazza Anzilotti) and, following age-old ancient connections, we will make our way to the town of Collodi. After leaving the town behind us, we will pass through olive groves and walk along paths and forest roads, reading stories and tales along the way. When we arrive in the town of Monte a Pescia, 2 km from the end of the walk, there will be a tasty snack waiting for us.
Cost of the guided tour: €10 per person, €6 for children aged 8 to 12 (includes insurance and guided tour).

The Bonsai Museum offers Bonsai enthusiasts and others a vast collection of wonderful specimens from all over the world. The exhibition occupies more than 550 square metres, where you can admire centuries-old olive trees, cypress groves, exotic figs, conifers and other trees, including some of the strangest and rarest in existence.

INDEPENDENT HIKING EXCURSIONS – VIA DELLA FIABA – PESCIA-COLLODI (round trip)
Circular route: you can leave your car at the old flower market in Pescia and make your way to the nearby Via della Cappella, where the surfaced path no. 51 sets off uphill and takes you to Collodi Castello in approx. 1.5 hours.
Elevation gain: this is the old road to Collodi, with bridges and verges along the way. Beautiful surfaced path, unfortunately broken up in several places, but very evident in all its beauty elsewhere.
Useful information: hiking boots and poles are recommended. Please note that all the paths, even the old paved roads, become slippery when wet.

“IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF SANTA BARBARA”, BETWEEN NATURE AND LEGEND.
Free guided tour and hike organised by the CAI Valdinievole, in collaboration with the Municipality of Pieve a Nievole and the Municipality of Montecatini Terme.
Estimated duration: approx. 3.5 hours, excluding short stops for guided tours.
The route starts from the parish church of Pieve a Nievole, located in Piazza San Marco, where a small guided tour will take place. It route passes through Montecatini Alto and stops at the Museum of Sacred Art. The itinerary continues back to the starting point, passing “Ponte di Dante” (Dante’s Bridge), a characteristic little bridge in the locality of Tanelli, in Pieve a Nievole.

Exhibition of archaeological finds from the year 1000 discovered at the Plebs de Neure site.
First exhibition of silver coins dating back to the eleventh century, discovered during the
archaeological safeguarding excavations in the Plebs de Neure area.

Presentation of the book “Il caso Rocco” by the author Andrea Mitresi. Mitresi is a well-known criminal lawyer of the Bar of Pistoia. The book analyses the inviolable principle of defence in order to ensure a “fair trial”, which is one of the fundamental cornerstones of every rule of law. All the proceeds from the book will be donated to the radiotherapy department of Careggi University Hospital.
