District of Larciano

The birth of the town of Larciano is attested around the Ninth century following the grouping of some small communities that occupied the Montalbano side up to the Padule di Fucecchio. The village of Larciano Castello has medieval origins and is one of the most important strongholds of the Pistoian defensive system of the time. However during the war between the Ghibelline Pistoia and the Guelphs Lucca and Florence, precisely in 1302, Larciano castle was conquered. Today it is still possible to observe the walls with the doors leading to the village and the mighty quadrangular keep of the fortress.
