MEDIEVAL PESCIA 2019

those arriving in Pescia, on this spring day, can immerse themselves in a suggestive medieval atmosphere: the districts of the City will be decorated in the colors of the 4 city districts: Ferraia; Saint Francis; San Micheal; Santa Maria and in the most evocative corners there will be traveling shows, music, sword fights, street performers, arts and crafts exhibitions, flag wavers, ladies, cavalieries, anything spectacular …

Furthermore, characteristic taverns will be equipped with tasting of food and historical drinks.

Finally, stands will be set up with clothing, medical ointments, food and cosmetics with reference to the Middle Ages.

Hiking from Lamporecchio to San Baronto
During the Fierucola village bank holiday that day, a group hiking has been organized from Lamporecchio to San Baronto, 4km through the hiking path n° 20 (CAI number, “via vecchia” also called);
Meeting point 14.00 (or 2pm) at Piazza Berni square (in front of the town hall)
Returning time 18.00 (or 6pm) start of the walking descend from Lamporecchio, or start of the shuttle back to the meeting point.
USEFUL TIPS
This visit is provided both in Italian and in English; max number of participants 30; not possible in case of bad weather.
Please bring comfortable walking shows and your own water.

The Gipsoteca (plaster cast) Libero Andreotti may be defined a museum of modern art, and represents quite a peculiar artistic event in Italy: counting more than 230 plasters directly donated by the author, this museum was indeed born because of the author’s family will.
The Gipsoteca museum is located inside the old palace named Palagio, originated in the XIII century, that through the centuries became the governor’s palace, then a school, a hospital and many other things.

Special Opening: CHURCH OF SAN FRANCISCO (with wooden paintings from Berlinghieri)

This church belongs to the old diocesis of Pescia, and it was built on the XIII century, after the legend that says San Francisco passed from here at the time.
The church has got jus one navate with some chapels on the sides: on one of this the legendary wooden pale of San Francisco and his life from Berlinghieri, known worldwide because it was painted just 6 years after the death of the Saint, so it means the resemblance must be realistic, provided that the author met the Saint. PIEVE DI CASTELVECCHIO Church – Medieval “PIEVE” Church of Castelvecchio

Opening of the oldest medieval “Pieve” church of the area, fully rebuilt two centuries ago: a “Pieve” was a visible church on the top of a hill or mountain, with a considerably high bell tower to serve more villages in the nearbys of a mountain territory, where more often priests or bishops would come and serve for a Holy Mass. The visit may include the Oratory of Castelvecchio with some 1700 paintings and a scenic view over the valley.
