District of Buggiano

The town of Buggiano has the particular characteristic of being divided into two parts: a high part of medieval origin and a low part that developed in modern times. The upper part takes the name of Buggiano Castello, where the defensive walls and the fortress of the medieval period are still intact. In Buggiano we find the Palazzo del Potestà and a Romanesque Benedictine church, but the village is also famous for its citrus gardens: for a week every two years Buggiano is transformed into the “Borgo degli Agrumi”.
